Key Milestones

1857

Etude Robert was founded by Mr. Frédéric Robert, Attorney. Since then, the firm has always advised Mauritian commercial firms, banks, insurance companies, and sugar companies; and more recently, hotel companies, offshore business, and textile industries. Mr. Frédéric Robert has been followed by four other generations of lawyers, all of whom have been in the forefront of the legal profession in Mauritius. The firm has developed alongside the country and witnessed all the changes in the Mauritian economy. Etude Robert has adapted to support the legal needs of the country from when it was a sugar-based economy to a much more diverse and sophisticated country with complex legal requirements. A constant throughout all the changes has been the solid legal advice and unmatched litigation skills.

2005

BLC Chambers was founded by Iqbal Rajahbalee SC, and Jason Harel. Focused on corporate, commercial, and financial law, BLC Chambers gradually gained a cutting-edge advantage on advising and handling complex cross border transactions. The firm was structured from the start to operate as a firm with its professionals working in teams as opposed to working as collection of individuals. Jean-Eric Sauzier became a partner in 2006.

2008

Became a member of Africa Legal Network (ALN), which is an alliance of leading independent corporate law firms currently in fifteen key African jurisdictions and an established network of Best Friends firms in the continent which allows the alliance to represent clients in every African country.

2009

First ranking as Top Tier firm in IFLR1000 and as Band 1 Firm in Chambers and Partners.

2014

First ranking as Tier 1 Firm in Legal 500 EMEA.

2016

Merger between BLC & Associates with Etude Robert to become BLC Robert & Associates. Mr. André Robert, Senior Attorney, the fifth generation of lawyers from Etude Robert, is appointed as Partner following the merger. Significant emphasis has been put in the development of its litigation practice which is today one of the leading litigation teams in Mauritius with one senior counsel and one senior attorney.

2018

Appointment of the next generation of Partners. The promotion of new partners in line with our growth strategy showcases the career development pathways in a context of ever-changing legal services and our commitment to attract and develop the finest legal talent.
